It bridges the digital and physical worlds by connecting partner universities through real community voices, multimedia content, and high-impact public events across Europe.
The Campaign includes:
It is designed for academic staff, professional services, students, and community organizations looking for practical, arts-based ways to build inclusive and supportive university environments.
The HEARTS Guide: A Guide for the Introduction of Culturally Sensitive and Community-based Mental Health Promotion in Higher Education has been co-created by six European institutions and builds on the previous outputs of the project: the Foundation Bricks Report and the Activity Handbook.
It provides practical guidelines and strategic recommendations for promoting mental health in higher education through culturally sensitive, inclusive and community-based approaches.
The Guide includes:
It is designed for academic and non-academic staff, students, and professionals working to create inclusive and supportive university environments.
The HEARTS Activity Handbook: Activities to Foster Culturally-Sensitive and Community-Based Mental Health Promotion in Higher Education has been developed by the partner institutions and organizations of the HEARTS project. It presents five complete learning paths, each containing practical, adaptable activities designed to promote mental health in university settings. The handbook includes detailed workshop descriptions and step-by-step activity guidelines, enabling higher education professionals to implement them effectively with their own groups.
Grounded in inclusive, culturally sensitive and community-based approaches, it offers tailored methodologies for students, staff and mixed groups, supporting well-being, reducing stigma, and fostering healthy, participatory learning environments.
The HEARTS Foundation Bricks Report: Mental Health Needs Assessment of Five European Higher Education Institutions addresses the urgent mental health crisis in higher education, worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, rising global tensions, backlash against social minorities, increasing stress and inadequate support systems. Through a comprehensive needs assessment across five universities in Barcelona, Lisbon, Turin, Cagliari, and Malta, using service mapping, surveys and interviews, the report provides an interdisciplinary and intercultural perspective on mental health challenges today.
The findings highlight the crucial need to enhance belonging and connectedness, revealing gaps in services, access barriers, and insufficient support for diverse groups. The report advocates adopting preventative and holistic strategies to help universities develop more effective and responsive mental health frameworks.
